Base painting for the vintage movie poster ''The Girl of the Golden West'', a musical Western film released in 1938, directed by Robert Z. Leonard and starring Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. The film is based on the 1911 play of the same name by David Belasco and the 1915 opera adaptation by Giacomo Puccini.

Set during the California Gold Rush of the 1850s, "The Girl of the Golden West" follows the story of Mary Robbins, also known as "The Girl" or "Minnie," played by Jeanette MacDonald, who runs a saloon in a mining camp called Cloudy Mountain. Nelson Eddy portrays Dick Johnson, a handsome outlaw who arrives at the saloon under the alias Ramerrez. As Minnie and Ramerrez's romance blossoms, they find themselves caught in a web of danger and intrigue.
